My Students
My Agriculture/Horticulture students are part of a plant science program at DHS. They are a diverse group in terms of ethnicity, age, academic performance, and personal interests. We are in the Spring Valley neighborhood of Las Vegas. Most students have an urban background and very little experience working with plants or being outdoors in general.
My students really enjoy the hands-on nature of the program.
They especially love experimenting with their own individual plants and plant materials. They have been especially grateful of hands-on learning after the isolation of the covid lockdown.
My Project
My students are in a Plant Science program at an inner-city school. As part of their curriculum, they help maintain a large veggie garden, a perennial pollinator garden, an herb garden, and a flower garden. They also maintain their own personal garden in the form of container gardening.
These grow lights, seeds, and seed starting trays would help us start seeds more effectively by enabling us to start them inside our classroom rather than outdoors where gemination is more variable.
Our plant science classes are based on experimentation, these materials would help give my students the tools they need to run many different horticultural experiments.
