My Students

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and remember. Involve me and I learn." Students need to be involved in their learning so that they can take ownership of what they are doing. Students need to get their hands "dirty" by using them to research, create and make learning meaningful.

I teach 22 eager, energetic 3rd grade students in my classroom this year.

We are a Title I school with 100% participation in the reduced price/free lunch program. Many of our students have never left our community and experienced anything outside of the area. All of our students are eager to learn and need experiences that they do not get at home. We do not have much parental involvement at our school and we are looking to change that. We want parents to associate school with love, learning and caring. We would like to change parents' points-of-view from the negative experiences they may have had as a child, to be able to see the positive experiences we provide their children.

My Project

I love teaching third grade and I'm really looking forward to the brand new school year. Many of our students come to school without their needed supplies and I want to make sure my entire third grade class has a successful start. My students need dry erase markers, computer paper, pencils, correction tape and various other supplies to begin a successful school year. In third grade, we do many activities with our dry erase boards and markers. We are constantly switching out dry erase markers! My classroom also creates interactive notebooks. They are often creating diagrams, pictures and charts to depict their work and show examples. My students also need pencils to be able to complete their work. I have asked for a weekly/monthly calendar to help keep track of student SST/IEP meetings, as well as after school activities and curriculum nights.
