Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are always eager to learn. Many are students who speak anywhere from no English to a good understanding of English and usually speak another language primarily. The children are so eager to learn. They pair up quickly to help those who need it.

The neighborhood is economically and culturally diverse but some families are at a financial and social disadvantage.

My students do not have many opportunities outside the classroom and love learning through hands-on projects during science.

I know coding, stem and engineering is the future for our children and I would love to give them the advantage.

My Project

We would love to begin building a Maker Space/Play Lab for our students to come to and turn on their creativity. We are hoping that by using their hands and problem solving skills to plan, engineer and build or create, they will carry over these skills to ela, math and other subjects, as well as prepare them for the future.

Using Ozobots, Bloxels and Makey Makey's will encourage children to be creative and design their own video game or build and create to solve a problem.

The students all know they are not allowed to say can't and must always say "Be persistent". The students will gain social skills, team work, problem solving skills, new vocabulary and use of English, math, writing... so many important skills. No one will say their ideas are wrong here because there is no such thing as a bad idea.

We are also hoping for some containers and drawers to hold our new supplies and add some color to our Maker Space. We are hoping it continues to grow and be loved by our students.
