My Students

My school has been focusing on encouraging students with talents in the Visual and Performing Arts. Currently, we have an Art Colony that encourages students to develop their drawing skills. We want to expand and encourage students to use different media. We also want them to create a portfolio of their work.

Our students need sketchbooks and paper for their work with watercolor pencils, water colors, and oil pastels.

Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, in a primarily working class, inner-city neighborhood, our students may not have access to these art materials on a regular basis. Coming from families where parents may be working multiple jobs and struggling to meet everyday needs, our students may not have these materials at home to practice their craft.

I hope that by providing Art Colony students with these standard art materials, our students will be empowered to develop their talent into a lifelong passion. Encouraging these budding artists to experiment with the tools of their craft will also help these students stay motivated, persist, and, hopefully, enjoy learning.

My Project

When artists use watercolors, oil pastels, and water color pencils, they need paper that grabs the pigments. Providing my students with Mixed Media Pads will give them the foundation needed to create their art. They will also become aware of an often overlooked artist challenge - choosing the right paper for their projects.

These mixed media pads will give students the flexibility to experiment with wet and dry media.

These pads will also encourage the students to keep their work organized. Hopefully, having the right tools will unleash the creativity of these budding artists and help them grow in their craft.
