We are a smaller rural community that has a rapidly growing population of Hispanics. Our students are incredibly smart and the main goal is for them to realize the many opportunities that they have and how they can grow as individuals to make a difference in the world we live in. If no one encourages them or provides materials they need to do this; how will that ever happen? They come from all different backgrounds and cultures - we need a library collection to match!
My Project
Being that we currently have very few items in our collection in the Spanish language and that we have many students who do not speak English at home, I see this as a growing necessity!
We want to build our collection of books in Spanish, beginning with duplicating the items we already have in English and possibly a few other titles that are not local to the United States.
It is critical that our students have their culture and family language at their finger tips and that is my goal! These are the beginning stages of this project, but I feel that it will take our students, teachers, district, and community to another level.
