This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is the first time my students have had the opportunity to take a high school art class. Many of them have been waiting for years, and they're ready to dive in!
My students are hungry for new experiences and ways to express themselves.
They have chosen, and have been selected, to participate in a learning community with high present and future goals. Many are actively working toward college, military, or workforce entrance. However, they have not had a class that exclusively focuses on hands-on skills and self expression. My students are excited to now have an art class because they have so much to say and reflect on.
My Project
These basic art room materials will allow my students to participate in many drawing, mixed media, and painting activities. They can explore color and value in the world around them using the watercolor paints and drawing papers. They will be able to recreate the world around them realistically with drawing projects like one and two point perspective. For this they will need paper, colored pencils and markers. They can create new worlds with collage using paper and glue. With these materials, my students will be able to learn skills which will translate into many different aspects of their life and education.
The materials listed in this project will allow my students to reflect on the world around and within them.
Currently, we have an empty room to create art, since there has not previously been an art program at this school. We cannot make real, tangible, hands-on and meaningful art without supplies. Their ideas are bouncing all over their heads and the proper materials will be their direct outlet. They are ready, waiting, and enthusiastic!
