My Students

In an effort to insure that at least 20 percent of my students' science classroom experience includes hands-on laboratory work, I need many supplies which cannot be acquired with my meager budget. I hope to do a project in which my students can learn about the development of embryos.

I teach Science to about 100 students in Arkansas.

Some of our students are from farming families and are familiar with the life cycles of various farm animals. However, most of my students have never witnessed this first hand. My students love Science when it relates to their own lives, and I hope to help them develop and even greater interest.

My Project

In preparation for this activity, my students will learn that a fertilized egg cell carries genetic information from each parent and multiplies to form a complete organism. We will investigate and analyze the development of chicken embryos using an incubator. After they hatch, we will place the chicks in the brooder to continue to watch their development in the classroom until they are big enough to go to various homes.

I want my students to have a memorable experience in my science class, and I believe that they will better remember the concepts I'm teaching if they see it all happen first hand.

This could be the inspiration that will help some of my students become future scientists!
