Our students are hard-working, critical thinking problem-solvers. They come to school every day with a strong desire to learn and amazing work ethic. We strive to be among the top performing elementary schools in our area. Through a team collaborative effort, our community, teachers, staff and students have developed a family-like atmosphere in our school.
In STEM class students attend once every five days, they incorporate IT skills to complete group and team challenges, explore new technologies, investigate and develop solutions for real-world problems and create using the classroom makerspace.
STEM class gives students the opportunity to work collaboratively, strengthen problem solving skills and take those practices back to their classrooms.
My Project
My students enjoy problem-solving and working together daily in STEM class. Family STEM Night is an opportunity for students and their families to do the same. This year I am hosting our second annual Family STEM Night. Families and students work through various STEM challenges at different stations in addition to visiting local businesses and parent volunteers who are on site to showcase how STEM is used in their field.
Family STEM Night is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore, create and problem-solve while working as a family to do so.
The materials requested will stock the stations that families will work through together. This year's theme is STAR Wars so families will be working to create their own droid using various items. They may create a finger light saber, construct an Ewok launcher and compete in a paper air plane contest.
I hope to provide a variety of opportunities for students and their families to explore and create together. These materials will allow me to do just that.
