Star Scientist

Help me give my students a Gskyer telescope so that my fifth graders who are pretending to be star scientists have a telescope that will allow them to observe the different constellations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach STEM from Pre-K to fifth grade. The population that I teach is mostly Hispanic and their second language is English. Our students are curious, eager to learn, funny, caring and loving. I enjoy what I do for a living because each day for me is a new adventure in learning. There is never a dull day in the STEM lab. Making many mistakes and laughing are part of our daily routine.

I relish in giving the students STEM challenges because I love the way they collaborate with each other; agreeing or disagreeing on how they are going to proceed to solve their challenge.

They love designing, creating, and having fun testing. Our students show great interest in their world. They are full of wonder and questions.

Our students are passionate about the world around them and hold a positive view of their future.

My Project

The fifth graders and other students will use the telescope to observe, record and share what they've learned. The telescope will help the fifth graders understand the important role a 'star scientist' or being an 'astronomer' plays in understanding stars and their constellations. The fifth graders use the will formulate a hypothesis such as "Are there other planets circling around other stars since Earth is one of many planets circling our solar system?"

The fifth graders will have a first hand experience investigating their hypothesis using the telescope to learn about the stars and their constellations.

I am sure they will enjoy being astronomers.
