My Students

You parents, fellow educators and youth workers all know what it's like to read a classic like "Caps for Sale" and "The Napping House." Unfortunately, our Kindergarten class has not known that feeling.

We are a class of 23 inner city students who love to talk about and share their favorite stories.

Our public school is sorely under budget and our classroom did not even exist last year, so we are starting almost from scratch. Donorschoose.org helped us get some new centers and we really love them but now that our school's resources have been exhausted, we need your help to support our "STAR BOOKS" library.

My Project

Enclosed is a list of a few classic stories other Kindergarten classes read a lot! We also need some stories we could listen to so a set of read-alongs and big books was added to the list. Finally, to help us organize our growing classroom library, we are asking for a new bookshelf. This one has lots of holes so that our leveled library could go on top and some reading and writing supplies (like stamps, pointers, etc.) can go in the holes. These materials are crucial for young minds to grow to love reading! We will use these books to enhance shared reading and read alouds...this will help learn about lots of things that good readers do. Ms. O loves read aloud and we love her read alouds too!
