My Students

I teach an exciting, motivated, and creative group of fifth-grade students. My student population is very diverse. I have some who are working below grade level, while others need to extend their thinking and apply the skills they have mastered in meaningful ways.

My students enjoy coming to school each day and learning from each other.

They use their critical-thinking skills to ask good questions and analyze information. They want to know about our community and how they can have a positive impact on it.

My Project

In order to be a 21st century learner, my students need flexible work spaces that allow them to collaborate with their peers. To create collaborative spaces, I am requesting 5 stand up desks with stools for students to use as they work on projects together.

My students have told me that being able to stand while they work on their projects helps them to concentrate.

At these new standing desks, my students will be able to engage in solving scientific problems. Students will work together to identify environmental problems and determine ways to solve those problems. At these desks students will collaborate, discuss, and create with their peers to solve a variety of self-identified environmental problems. Some examples are how to solve the trash problem on the playground, finding a place to plant milkweed for the monarch butterflies that travel through our city, or how to improve our schools recycling systems. The possibilities are endless and I am excited to see what they come up with.

My students will love the idea of having a special space to work together to create a product. Having these desks in the classroom will allow me to create perfect working stations for my students to get the movement they need into order to help them concentrate as they conduct scientific research and create final projects.
