Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Picture yourself steadying an electric piano with one hand while carefully fingering a Bb Major scale or the melody to "I Got Rhythm." My students need safe, stable stands to hold their keyboards while they use BOTH hands to make music!

Music class is unique in that it provides a creative, multifaceted learning experience that immerses the senses AND emotions while teaching discipline and coordination.

My students are enthusiastic 12 to 18-year-old musicians who just want to play piano without worrying that one might fall on their toes! My boys and girls come from single parent and foster homes, homeless shelters, and other low-income and stressful situations. Many of my students have no access to musical instruments of any kind outside of my classroom. Due to recent budget cuts, we have been unable to obtain any supplies for the music room. Interest and enrollment in my music classes continues to grow, but our school is not able to fund needed supplies such as the stands that we are requesting in this proposal.

My Project

If we receive the keyboard stands, we can begin studying two-handed piano skills. Classics like Beethoven's "Für Elise" and newer pieces like Alicia Key's "Fallin" can be fun and educational! We put on several performances each school year, and we want to incorporate more piano and more complex music. Many of my students want to study music in college and after high school. The stands can help students delve further into music through the piano, and uncover hidden talents while opening doors for careers and developing skills that will stay with them for life.

Our donation request will make a difference to our students who cannot afford a music education outside of school.

It will impact a large growing number of students who request music class each semester. The piano stands are needed tools to help learn & refine technique. My music students will be able to improve skills such as dynamic control, following forms, improvisation, coordination, etc. The stands will create a studio atmosphere that encourages discipline & appreciation for this art form.
