My Students

Our band program is in its second year and we continue to grow. My students perform for our community every six weeks. At most concerts, three students are sharing a stand which causes students to be less focused on the task.

Our students attend a K-8 public charter school generally serving high-poverty areas in Western PA.

As part of the school's curriculum, each student receives Creative Arts each day. This allows each student the opportunity to not only learn an instrument and become a better musician but also to become a better person.

My Project

We need two music stands for our growing band program. Our band program is planning its first spring concert. Preparation and focus are key to such an event. When each student has his/her own stand, he or she is more likely to concentrate on their objectives rather than worry about others while they are sharing.

"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that cannot remain silent." My students would be modeling Victor Hugo's famous words through their performances in the community.
