My Students

My students lack resources but not motivation and drive! With your help we can bring materials to my chemistry classroom to make learning chemistry not only fun but relevant, showing students how chemistry is connected to the world around them.

I teach at a large urban high school where the students have many challenges- poverty, drugs, gangs, single parent households and teenage pregnancy to name a few.

My Title I school has many students who will be the first in their families to attend college. My goal is to help them get there by making school interesting so they'll attend and teaching them key problem-solving skills while they are here.

My Project

Next year I will be teaching in a small school where we incorporate visual and performing arts into the core curriculum. What better way to teach students interested in art about chemistry than with art projects related to the topics we are studying? Stained glass techniques will help my students understand the properties of metals and silicates, the main components of stained glass. Students will learn about chemical bonding and then apply their chemistry knowledge to create a project in groups using stained glass. How fun and educational!

With your help I hope to give students a reason to come to school and a reason to enjoy both art and chemistry by seeing the connections.

Thank you for your consideration. My students are the best and deserve every opportunity we can give them in life.
