My Students

I teach students with autism who have difficulties accessing the core curriculum, due to processing and behavioral challenges. This year my students especially struggle in the area of Math. They need extra help learning, accessing, and remembering math facts and Core Math Standards. But before I can teach them anything, I need to make sure they are ok physically and emotionally.

Many of my students also have challenges with behavior due to being over stimulated and under stimulated.

They will benefit from having sensory items available to help them meet their sensory needs when needed.

My Project

Students with Autism can easy get frustrated when they are under or over stimulated. During these times they experience trouble expressing themselves. This can lead to behavior issues like tantrums, violence, and eloping. Often times they retreat to their own world in their minds as a way to escape. These students need a way to provide the stimulation they need to help them self-regulate their behavior.

Having sensory items to twist, squish, put together, and to take apart available during these difficult times can make a difference in having a good day or having a bad day.

As a teacher I prefer more good days, and you can help me achieve this goal. :)
