My Students

I am the school counselor for OMS that provides education for 411 students 5th through 8th grade. The students within this district are predominantly on the lower socioeconomic ladder and are provided supports such as free lunches and Title 19 insurance.

Many students at the OMS are survivors of broken family units, low poverty level living environments, and trauma that is not in their control causing additional stress and anxiety.

This makes the everyday teenage stressors such as peer pressure, academic success and social media increase and compounded by issues going on outside of school and often out of their control.

The staff and students at OMS work hard to build a strong, safe and stable learning environment for all students. Providing opportunities and supports to achieve academic, social and career-ready successes are done through various programs such as after school tutoring, character class to support students' success in relationships with others, and the desire and drive to be proud of who they are, their school, and their classmates as well as learn coping skills to combat peer pressure, anger, anxiety, stress and depression.

My Project

Having these tools and resources will allow the students I work with to feel heard and gotten regarding things that are often out of their control as well as provide supports when dealing with stress, anxiety, anger and depression.

The items funded through the awesome DonorsChoose.org program allows my students opportunities to incorporate tools and resources that will support their needs as they work through stress, depression, peer pressure and anger to achieve success academically, social/ emotionally and career ready.

The use of the Anxiety Workbook will allow students opportunities to gain knowledge to improve their well-being. The healing crystal hearts will be utilized by students as a comfort tool when placed in situations that are uncomfortable for them.

The use of the magnetic tools can be incorporated into prime opportunities when engaging with students something to focus on when processing their thoughts and feelings. The different books are age appropriate to utilize when addressing the normalization of having specific thoughts and feelings encompassing anger, stress, anxiety and sadness and how to handle situations that may arrise personally for each one.
