Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of Pre-kindergarten students. They all come from low-income families with limited resources. My students are motivated to learn even though they have limited life experiences.

Though they live in the poorest congressional district in the country, they constantly surprise me with their motivation and enthusiasm.

They are eager to learn and always have an inquisitive mind. I am lucky to be their teacher because I learn from them as much as they learn from me. I get to find the diamonds in the rut.

My Project

Did you know that gross motor skills are a critical part of a child's development? Gross motor skills are those which require whole body movement and which involve the large muscles of the body to perform everyday functions, such as standing and walking, running and jumping, and sitting upright at the table. They also includes eye-hand coordination skills such as ball skills (throwing, catching, kicking) as well as riding a bike or a scooter and swimming.

Our gross motor area needs help, according to the Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE) children in Pre-K need an hour and thirty to forty minutes of gross motor play a day.

The outdoor play items requested will allow educators to provide a fun and exciting learning experience through play. These skills are important to enable children to perform every day functions, such as walking, running, skipping, as well as playground skills and sporting skills. Gross motor play is crucial in everyday self care skills like dressing (where you need to be able to stand on one leg to put your leg into a pant leg without falling over). With the help of your donations these items will allow students to be successful in performing daily life activities.
