Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My sixth graders love color and creativity. They enjoy having opportunities to create something and share it with the class. As a teacher, I find great enjoyment in finding lessons which allow my students to connect their artistic talents to the science and math lessons of my classroom.

I have the privilege to teach 60 sixth grade math and science students this year.

They are a lively group of diverse kiddos from various backgrounds and cultures. Our school is a Title One school with a large majority of our students coming from low income households. About 70% of our children receive free or reduced school meals, and many more get assistance with waivers and donations for our uniform requirements. My students are very creative and given the opportunity, they love to express themselves artistically! At times while being silly they will dance and sing about the classroom, but when curriculum is concerned, any opportunity to draw or create is right up their ally.

My Project

We are currently starting our second semester and this spring we will start the majority of our projects; especially in science! We will be learning about amazing things such as volcanoes, earthquakes, and ecosystems. In math we will be studying equations, and starting geometry! These art supplies would help the kids create the various vocabulary booklets we need in science. They would also help them create posters for their upcoming projects and presentations for their earthquake and volcano units, as well as their amazing ecosystem projects! We will also be assembling a math scrap book at the end of the semester that will help them retain all of the important math vocabulary we learned this year with visual, colorful examples to relate to. Unfortunately, many of my students' supplies that were purchased at the start of the school year, in August, have since dwindled. Our classroom supplies too have become pretty scarce and we have five months of creative fun ahead of us!

A donation of these art supplies would be fantastic for my class.

It would allow all of them to have access to enough paper, poster boards for projects, and color galore! Please consider my creative kiddos for your donation of color and imagination.
