Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hi, I am a speech therapist in an equity focus school, and I work with bilingual English and Spanish learners from 8:1:1 and 12:1:1 classrooms. My special needs students have many different communication delays. They really enjoy reading books and using hands-on engaging materials to target goals that include question comprehension, story retelling, and everyday communication skills including requesting. My students benefit from picture books to enhance receptive language skills when they are non-verbal learners. I am grateful we have previously been able to complete projects to get new titles for our library. I am looking to get some new spring books for my students. Two of the books are from the Squirrel and Bird series and we really enjoyed reading “The Leaf Thief” from the same series this past fall. I have added a few learning games to our list for a jump start on our conversational skills during group sessions. We love using "A Little Spot of Feelings" in speech to express our feelings. Social emotional learning for our students is important.

Creating communication books and tools for my kids is an everyday job and I would just like to restock on file folders which I often use to store visuals and attach images to them with velcro dots to make activities interactive.

We regularly use an iPad in speech therapy. A new case and screen protector will help keep our iPad safe as ours is now cracked and we would love to keep our technology safe.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to try and fundraise for the materials needed to help my students progress as we continue to learn this spring. Thank you for the help in reaching our goals with any size help!
