Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and they are a mixture of Hispanic and African American students. They are also students who have special needs.

Parents do their best to provide the bare essentials that their kids need throughout the school year, but many times that is all that they can give them.

Many of the families have at least four kids in the school. It is a lot to ask a family to purchase materials when some of them cannot pay their utility bills. Although the parents and the school community do their best to provide for the children, with budget cuts, it is getting harder to provide them with tools for learning.

My Project

In the spring students will learn about the 20th century in Social Studies. They will also choose novels to read that focus on a subject from that time period. We are requesting books that will engage and encourage them to read.

Our class library is lacking books that will interest and engage my students into reading for enjoyment about events that occurred in the 20th century.

Students will create timelines about the events they are reading. They will also create journal writings as if they to are experiencing the event themselves. Students will create titles for each chapter they read from their novels that demonstrates their understanding and importance of the main events.
