Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I elementary school located in New York City. My school is filled with children of diverse backgrounds and needs. These students are passionate about learning and our school community. They were always eager to enter school, greet one another, and to find out what learning has been taking place. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we must rebuild our classroom remotely.

My students have exhibited incredible determination, passion, and eagerness to learn remotely in these unusual times.

In person school allowed my students to express their thoughts and ideas effortlessly, however this has proven difficult in remote learning. I am committed to keeping their passion for learning blazing by provided them with the best digital tools to interact and learn from one another.

Our school also strives to promote health and wellness as well as creativity. We are continuing to provide our fine arts, music, and dance as well as a wellness committee, running club, and well rounded physical education program virtually this school year.

My Project

My students have been rockstars while learning remotely. They take such pride in their hard work. They are taking risks by trying new things, sharing their successes and failures, and recognizing when and how to ask for help while learning from home.

My students work so diligently to complete their work however they can but for some, sending their work has been a difficult task.

They become frustrated when they are unable to share all they have done at home with our entire class.

For the first few months of school we have tested out various learning platforms, one stands out above the rest for my students' needs... SeeSaw! My students are able to submit and share work with me as well as their classmates through drawing pictures, writing, recording videos and audio, and more! The SeeSaw platform has brought their engagement to a whole new level!
