My Project
My preschoolers are curious, active learners who love science and hands-on activities. We are beginning our gardening/spring study soon and will be learning about how things grow and change. My students are keen observers, always quick to identify what is new in our classroom or changes they see. I can imagine their excitement as they see their seeds sprouting and slowly growing into flowers. I can envision their curiosity seeing the little caterpillars and the questions that will follow as we learn about the lifecycle of the butterfly and watch the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly over time.
The caterpillars and flower seeds will kick off our spring learning.
Students will plant their seeds in their decorated planter cups. We can chart the growth of both the caterpillars and their plants, making predictions on "how many sleeps" until they a seedling, a chrysalis and finally beautiful flowers and butterflies appear. The books will help extend learning and engagement while supporting literacy and language in our classroom. With the majority of my students being English, language learners, hands on learning opportunities like this are the most powerful.
