This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Global Citizen Leadership Class is based on community partnerships and real-world solutions to problems. We are a class and club of action, hard work, and building positive relationships with others. Students are challenged to follow their dreams of a better world and are given the tools to see their leadership projects come to fruition.

Our school is located in a very low socioeconomic area, and our students are often in need of great amounts of community assistance just to survive.

My students intimately know all too well the challenges our community is facing due to COVID and rising inflation. My students are engaged, excited, and ready to roll up their sleeves and help to rebuild our school community through service and academic achievement. We maintain free rolling pantries around campus open to all students to take what they need to end the shame and stigma of need.

My students need help with necessities like pens and spiral notebooks to spring into the new semester. We need to support those students that do not have access to the most basic supplies right now for whatever reason. They need to finish the semester and stay on track to graduate.

High school is hard enough and if a student comes through our door we want to try to help them keep going in whatever way possible. We need some basic supplies to offer to students that need them and help take away the stigma and shame of asking for help to succeed.
