Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm requesting a variety of materials that may seem random, but have strategic connections to our learning goals over the next few months. They will also be used to provide relief from the Texas sun (water balloons) and promote camaraderie and joy.

First of all, as the weather quickly warms up in Houston (90 degrees in already in March!) we're ready for summer activities that meet our literacy needs.

For example, I'm requesting a countertop ice maker because my class will make diy ice cream (ziploc bags, ice, heavy cream, and shake it up!) and then write about the process. This fulfills several items in our upcoming writing unit (procedural/"how to" writing).

We're revisiting an earth science unit on properties of matter and the rock tumbling kit will allow us to observe these natural resources closely while noting (on a small scale) the power of water in eroding Earth's surfaces over time.

Many other resources I've requested, such as shrink paper and key chains, will be used for an upcoming Mother's Day spring craft - the kids will write a letter to their guardian(s) and we'll "shrink" the note and attach it to a key chain for a lifelong memory.

Giant wooden chopsticks, metallic paints, and a hot glue sticks will be used to make Harry Potter style wands. Why? Because art is amazing and we love HP! And because school is for fun and we love making whimsical memories together!

Ms. I. will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by July 14.
