Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in a title one school on the south-west side of Chicago. This holiday season I want my 8th grade students to learn about empathy and selflessness by giving by back to their community. These students are great kids but at times lack, as most teens do, compassion for others. I want them to learn kindness by spreading it themselves. I am creating a 'Spread the Holiday Cheer' service project in which my students will focus on a specific group each week to bring smiles to. The donation will go to DIY projects my students will create and then deliver to. Specific projects will include: writing letters and creating ornaments for a local senior citizen home, writing cards to past teachers, sending surprise crackers with little gifts and notes of aspiration to younger students in the building and painting pots and planting seeds as a gift to family members.
