Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school in the Bronx is a Title I, 100% free lunch school.

A large percentage of our students are Special Needs, English as a Second Language, and/or living in Temporary Housing.

They love new experiences, being creative, and working together. My students are eager to try new things and if I get excited about something they will get excited too. School is a great time for them to really be kids and to not worry about what is going on in the outside world and the difficulties they may have.

My Project

Several students approached me this year about beginning a cheerleading squad for our school. Given all that is going on I couldn't say no. So we have been researching cheers and have been practicing our jumps and cheers. We are hoping to perform at our 5th grade moving up ceremony, and we would really like some pom poms and hair bows. This will make our team really look great. While some of the students are moving on to middle school, others will be in the school for a few more years and we hope to continue our cheerleading team.

It is a great way to share our school spirit and do something positive.
