My Project

I teach at a high-poverty school in the Indianapolis area. Currently, our school population has 94% of the students qualify for free and reduced-price lunches. But, the minute you step into our building, you will witness the power of our staff and students. We are all motivated, eager to learn, and crave knowledge as a school. I am incredibly fortunate to spend my days with outstanding students and staff that care about educating the whole child! I am one of many who make a difference every day in the lives of the students who enter our school. We build readers, writers, thinkers, scientists, historians, and mathematicians.

As a school, we celebrate readers, and their growth, and share our love of books daily.

During independent reading, we teach students about their reading identity, how to choose books, reading strategies to help them become better readers, and sharing our love of books. In addition, we want to shine a light on a reader each month. We want to send each spotlighted reader home with a new book and flashlight to read with. The reader of the month will also be celebrated by being able to sit in a unique chair during independent reading.
