My Students

My students need softball equipment in order to practice their softball skills. Right now we are playing with old pitted balls, and my students are not at the point yet where they can pitch effectively. The ball pitching machine and new softballs I am requesting will improve batting averages and catching skills.

My students are an incredible bunch of lovely 6th graders who are full of energy.

Our school is in the middle of a neighborhood full of buildings where entire families live in singles or one-bedroom apartments. All my students are on free school lunch, and they also receive free breakfast in the classroom every day.

My Project

I teach physical education to all 115 of these students on Fridays for 3 seventy-minute periods. This equipment will allow me to teach much more effectively because while I am working with a group on catching practice, the other group can be working on batting practice.

This project will make an incredible difference in these students' physical education experience.

Right now, our physical education consists of playing games where only one ball is necessary. We play volleyball, basketball, kickball or soccer. This means that many students are not involved in the activity. This new equipment will allow all students to be involved.
