My Project

Our students come from a poverty stricken background. The majority of our students want to play sports, but their families can't afford to play the pricey league sports. We want to offer them the ability to join an afterschool basketball and flag football team. With the ability to join these teams, we keep the students active and off the streets of their neighborhoods. This will allow them the freedom to play and teach them the importance of teamwork. Teamwork now, can lead to success later. Basketball and football are sports that were asked for when we put a survey out for the students to choose from. We can form the teams using the pinnies. Using brand new footballs will really get them excited to play. Being that we are a middle school, we don't allow full contact, so the flag belts will be used. We are located in Florida, so we need the players to stay hydrated and the water bottles will work perfectly for each of the players.

Sports are so important for children to get involved in and get out energy and stress.

Sports allow them to get out the energy that they have bottled up from sitting in classes all day. Our kids today are under so much stress and some don't have the ability to be kids because they have siblings they have to take care of in the morning before school. If we can get these teams together after school, they can let off steam after a day at school.

Sports are great for mental health as well as wellness. If we can get these teams for our students, we can get the kdis outside and moving rather than on the streets or inside playing video games.
