My Students

My students look forward to the writing center each week, but could use better tools to get their stories started. Writer's block would be a thing of the past with new tools to start stories. In addition, a writing center organizer would keep all the things they need neatly within reach.

My students attend a Title 1 school in a small town in Alabama.

My first graders are active and eager to learn, but need much practice with writing skills. They are interested in learning how to apply new literacy skills and crafting unique stories, but sometimes need assistance generating story ideas.

My Project

My students currently view the writing center as a favorite. On Friday, when we have free choice centers the writing center is always full. Although it is a favorite, the writing center is lacking in organization and engaging tools. The tools I am requesting would provide my students with an easy effective resource to keep the center organized. The story starters would also provide instant ideas to begin their stories. It would give them background scenes with lined paper. The stamps would allow students to personalize their stories. The story starters would provide wonderful open-ended options to allow students' creativity to flourish.
