Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a school that serves students with a variety of special needs, including autism, intellectual disability, and emotionally disturbed. From the outside looking in, people may assume they are not athletic and physically incapable, but they are wrong! Our students compete at the highest levels of competitive sports. We participate (and win) in Special Olympics games, CHAMPS middle school athletics, and run in New York Road Runner events.

Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

Our students do not back down from a challenge. That is what I love most about this age group and population. They love to be active. They love sports. They love physical education.

My Project

We are the Otters and it is important for our student-athletes to train their hearts to be able to endure those grueling long, tough and competitive matches.

Help us build mental and physical toughness with the use of a spin bike!

Spinning is a great exercise for heart health. It can be performed as an anaerobic exercise, pulling energy from reserves and building up muscular endurance over an extended timeframe. Training on spin bikes will help students learn to work on controlled breathing. This can assist with anxiety and help lower the heart rate when in a situation where physical exertion begins to take the breath away.
