My Students

My school serves 600 children in pre k-5th grade in New York City. The majority of our students reside in a nearby public housing development. We also have students from families living in homeless shelters, a high percentage of students that are new to the country and students that receive special education services. All of our students receive free lunch. The children come to school with many personal needs that have to be met before we can begin the business of learning. This year I teach 3rd grade in an ICT setting. My classroom has amazing ENL students who have all different cultural backgrounds.

My Project

In our third grade ICT classroom, our students are learning the importance of voting. We have decided to have a class vote about having a class pet. Of course, the majority of students voted yes and ultimately voted to have a bearded dragon as our class pet.

Having a bearded dragon as a class pet provides the students with the responsibility of how to care of a pet.

These materials will provide what we need to give our class pet the best habitat we can and what the students need to care for the bearded dragon.
