This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are always eager to learn. Many are students who speak anywhere from no English to a good understanding of English and usually speak another language primarily. The children are so eager to learn. They pair up quickly to help those who need it.
The neighborhood is economically and culturally diverse, but some families are at a financial and social disadvantage.
My students do not have many opportunities outside the classroom and love learning through hands-on projects during science. We are developing a computer science and STEM program in our school and inviting our parents as well in part with the CS4ALL initiative.
I know coding, STEM, and engineering will drive the future for our children, and I would love to give them the advantage.
My Project
The students in my school have missed out on so much due to covid. They absolutely thrive on STEM, computer science and coding. What better way to combine all three than with Spike Robot Kits and an entry into the First Lego League to compete what they learn!
My grade 5 students will have hands on experience through the use of legos, robotics and coding, as well as much needed social interactions and friendly competition by receiving these robot kits and entering the competition.
Due to Covid, we were unable to launch this amazing program and we are so hoping to be able to explore, learn, create and WIN!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
