Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our elementary school library serves many new English Language Learners and their numbers are growing every year. Providing a collection of popular children's books in Spanish translations will help these students in grades K-5, and their families, to feel valued and welcomed to our community. It will provide them the comfort of familiarity as they are adjusting to new surroundings and the challenges of learning English as a new language. Having popular books written in Spanish also supports students who are bilingual to strengthen their Spanish skills while continuing to grow in English.

Research shows that new language acquisition is easier for students who are already fluent in their home language and supporting them and their families in that endeavor is always a win-win strategy.

We have many well loved English copies of books kids are all clamoring to check out and we would love to add some Spanish editions of these same books to our shelves to encourage and inspire the love of books and reading for ALL of our students!
