Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A challenge facing my students both inside and outside the gymnasium is their coordination and focus. I believe that speed stacking will help to enhance these areas in a safe and nurturing atmosphere.

I teach physical education grades K-5.

These students are from a low income area and don't get as many opportunities as other children their age. I have seen an improvement from a fitness standpoint but they still lack some coordination and eye/hand coordination. These speed stacks will help them to develop these crucial skills.

My Project

Sport Stacking is a fitness based sport that kids from all backgrounds and abilities can do. For the athlete and non-athlete alike, regardless if you are instructing eighth graders or first graders, sport stacking can be a great enhancement for our fitness routine. Sport stacking not only promotes physical fitness, but also academic learning. Students that sport stack on a regular basis have shown increases in test scores and levels of concentration. This is achieved by students using both their right and left sides of their brain. When students sport stack they are crossing the "midline" of their bodies and developing new connections in their brains. These new connections help to spur brain growth which in turn promotes greater academic achievement

This donation will enhance my students learning and attentiveness by allowing them to spend time on a unit most other students never have the opportunity to experience.
