I need funds to purchase the EBLI K-12 intervention training program for my 1st-5th grade students.

My Project

Hello! I’m Mrs. Oachs and I am a speech language pathologist who is passionate about improving the literacy skills of my students. I work primarily with 1st grade to 5th grade students with identified educational disabilities in the areas of speech and language. The vast majority of my students are below targets in the areas of reading, writing, and spelling. Many of my students I see for articulation have deficits in phonological awareness. All of the students I see for language disorders have weaknesses in all areas of oral language that significantly impact their progress in literacy. They are double whammy on the decoding side and the language comprehension side of the reading rope. I hate that these students’ literacy skills are defined by their disability and that they are falling in predictable patterns.

I am seeking funding to complete the K-12 EBLI (Evidenced Based Literacy Instruction) intervention certification.

I have done a lot of research on explicit, systematic, structured literacy programs and I keep coming back to the EBLI training for several reasons

-interleaving of skills (spelling, reading, writing, and comprehension)

-structured, systematic skill progression

-reduced cognitive load of the lessons. This is really important because my students often have below average working memory and processing skills.

At this point the cost of the program is the only thing standing in my way of completing this program.
