Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Words are how we express ourselves. What if organizing words did not come easy to you? These 60 extraordinary 6-12th graders do remarkable things but have expressive and receptive struggles that make some everyday tasks a bit more difficult. For about 70% of the population, English is their second or even third language.

They are smart, committed, fun and love to use all the resources that they can get.

They love to receive games and new resources to help them get organized, critically think, self assess and be college ready!

My Project

As is the case in most schools, supplies are often limited! Our speech area needs a little sprucing up to encourage teens to keep coming to speech therapy to help them get college ready. At the pre school and elementary school level, speech is fun and games and students love coming there. As they get older and get pulled out, speech can be seen as a not so fun and also isolating kind of setting.

With these resources, we can make speech exciting fun, and a place they voluntarily want to come to.

All of the reading, writing, expressive, receptive and pragmatic skills they receive in speech will directly impact the classroom and make them feel refreshed and ready to tackle organizational skills in college as well as essay writing and non-fiction texts that can be tricky. Let's do it!

In the speech room, the space is ever-changing and usually used for other purposes. We want to designate a speech area and make it distinct. With the resources that you will provide, we can spruce up the room with confidence boosters, posters about parts of speech and get students in the mindset for learning.

Also included are some speech games that make high school learning fun and purposeful. In addition, since board space is limited, individual dry-erase boards allow students to have their own personal board and engage in groups in a more fun way. We can't wait to have these resources to start this speech year right and make this space an inviting and exciting place to have therapy!
