Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a middle school ranging from grades six to eight, located in West Harlem, NY with many of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. The students come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and many of the students are English language learners.

My students are intelligent, hard-working, and compassionate.

They enjoy hands-on learning experiences, opportunities to be creative, and taking on academic challenges. As their speech teacher, I want to be able to provide them with everything they need in order to be successful learners.

My Project

My students have benefited greatly this year from the use of many different kinds of online learning tools and platforms. Although we don't yet know what next school year will bring, I would love to make sure that my speech room has enough iPads for each student to continue to engage with these online learning platforms during our time working together. A new iPad Pro would help ensure that each student has access to a computer screen during our learning time. The iPad Pro will function as a second monitor for students so that they are able to have the learning tool or presentation on one screen, and their work on another, optimizing engagement.

Additionally, these new books I have selected will be a great resource during our units of study on activists, and will serve as texts to help us practice our reading comprehension and writing skills in a way that connects with the students' curriculum!
