My Project

The room I was provided at the start of the school year is quite large. While I appreciate the spaciousness, it has been challenging to utilize the area effectively, as some of the younger children tend to run around and take advantage of the open space. Dividers would help break up the room, allowing me and the other therapist to create individualized therapy stations. For example, we could set up a quiet reading corner, a sensory play area, and a table for articulation practice activities. This would reduce visual distractions and help the kids focus better during their sessions.

I’ve also requested cleaning supplies, which would be incredibly helpful as we wrap up the sick season.

We encourage our students to interact with our materials, tables, and games, but we want to ensure everything is thoroughly cleaned between uses. For instance, we plan to disinfect puzzles, building blocks, and art supplies daily to maintain a healthy environment for the kids.

Lastly, I requested fidgets, particularly for the younger PreK-K students I work with. These tools can provide language-enriching activities and help keep them engaged during sessions. For example, I plan to use textured fidgets and toys to encourage descriptive language (e.g., “This feels bumpy!”) and fidgets with moving parts to practice action words (e.g., “I’m twisting/pulling/squeezing!”). These activities will support their communication skills while keeping them focused.
