Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Practice makes perfect!" Help my students achieve their speech-language goals by providing them with an organized system where they can select individualized homework. These materials can get them excited about doing their homework!

My students have difficulty grasping concepts that are typically developed at their age level.

Many of them struggle to process language in their classrooms as fast as their peers. Consequently, they suffer academically and sometimes even socially because they are made fun of or are scared to participate in class. Many students come from households where they are only exposed to languages other than English. Some of these students then suffer when trying to communicate with classmates and teachers because they can't understand basic concepts and have auditory processing difficulties. The school is in an high need area. According to a comprehensive information report, 71-80% of students and families at this school require financial public assistance. The students could really use your help in receiving materials they would not normally be exposed to!

My Project

Homework carryover activities will allow my students to practice their skills at home. Students practice strategies and skills during speech-language therapy sessions and need materials at home to generalize these skills. When working on following directions that are orally presented, it is important for the students to develop strategies in the therapy room that they can generalize in the classroom and everyday life. I requested art materials such as glue and markers to send home for cut/paste following directions activities that are hands-on and exciting. I also requested labels/binders for students to easily select their homework in an efficient and organized way to maximize session time in therapy sessions. Finally, I requested a classroom stamp set to provide the children with positive feedback for completing their homework and for involving parents in their child's development.

Donations will make a HUGE impact on my students!

Not only will these materials help my students achieve their goals, but this can be a FUN and extremely MOTIVATIONAL way for them to work hard at home too! These homework materials can be adapted for levels from Pre-K through 4th grade and would make a huge difference on these children!
