Help stock our speech room! When Mrs. M. came to East Middle, there were very few "hands on" materials for students to practice their speech and language skills. If these materials get funded, Mrs. M. will be able to spend her own money to buy us a tablet for the speech room!
My students are 6th-8th grade students with disabilities including: Speech Impairments, Language Impairments, Learning Disabilities, Autism, Downs Syndrome, and other Intellectual Disabilities.
Our school is going into its third year of the turn around process due to failing test scores. This year, our reading scores have increased quite a bit as a school and we are hopeful that our test scores will reflect that.
Using these awesome materials from Lake Shore Learning, we will be able to target a variety of speech and language skills to improve our communication skills. These materials will help us get better at solving problems, strengthen our vocabularies, give us practice with tricky speech sounds, and help us be better readers. In our picture, only one of the computers work because they are very old. In the scheme of things, speech and language is very low on the budget priority list. New materials will provide us with other engaging activities for speech and language therapy. My students need new materials for speech and language therapy to start the new school year. We need quiz games, a world vocabulary game, a context clues game, and tricky words teaching cards.
Communication skills are paramount to kids graduating from high school, making friends, finding a significant other, and getting a job.
Donating these speech and language materials to my students will help us work towards becoming better communicators to achieve these life goals. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our project.
