Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I pledge allegiance to myself and who I want to be..." Each day, we begin our class with a promise that helps my students focus on what they want to do and to learn today to make their future dreams a reality. It's a reminder that we start each day with a positive attitude. We know that there will be challenges, but we also know that we can handle them. We can't control our circumstances, but we do control how we respond to them.

"I can't wait to make a mistake!" From day one, we foster a safe community of learners in our room.

If a student doesn't feel comfortable, they won't try anything new. We are all learners, and support each other in taking risks and making mistakes, because we know that is where the real learning happens. Ours is a Title I school, serving a largely immigrant, Latino population, in a densely-populated urban city. Statistically destined to drop out before they complete high school, my students aspire to go beyond the stereotypes, and be the first college graduates in their family. There are no shortcuts!

My Project

Each day we start our class on the schoolyard with PE. It's a great way for us to wake up, warm up, and have some healthy fun before heading into the classroom.

Healthy students achieve more, develop growth mindset skills, and learn good sportsmanship!

We know that we can challenge ourselves to learn new skills, challenge each other in rigorous competition, and celebrate our growth together each day. Each day, we reflect on how we improved and how we witnessed our classmates make progress.

PE time is a great time to develop so many of the skills that we need as good people. It makes sense that we have the right equipment to make that happen. Your support puts PE gear in my students' hands.
