A before school science club would like to add materials to our unit on civil engineering. The Spectacular Science Club is open to all fourth and fifth grade students at our school. Approximately 20 students participate in the club throughout the school year. With the help of grants and donors I offer engaging and dynamic science projects to students at no cost.

I began the Science Club as a way to get students hooked into science and exposed to a variety of science topics. I hope to instill a life long love of learning and inquiry in these students, and inspire them to pursue further science education. One of the most engaging topics for the students each year is our study of civil engineering. In past years students have shared a limited amount of supplies to create k'nex bridges. Students use spring scales to test the strength of their bridges. We focus on the process of planning, testing, and redesigning. This is always a favorite activity, but with limited supplies, students have not revealed their full design potential.

The k'nex bridge building kit will equip students with more bridge designs, specially designed materials, and access to more materials per student.

By supporting this project, you will help inspire students to pursue an education and careers in science and engineering. The bridge design the students create today, may be the bridge we drive across in the future!
