Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Honor, Courage and Commitment are the ideals our students live by.

Students learn to live through multiple lenses: Academic Life and the Life of Service Leadership.

My students are ninety-five percent Latino and ninety-seven percent below the poverty level and qualify for the free or reduced price lunch program. Although this aspect of life is unfortunate, this has not deterred my students from succeeding. My students are currently in A.P. Honors and regular chemistry. My students actively participate in the CPS Regional/City STEM Fair every year. My students have placed in gold, silver and bronze categories at the city and regional fair. My students are part of the STEAM Club held after school that extends their conceptual learning through various enrichment activities. The students also are part of JROTC program where they exceed in leadership and hold rank. All these special events that our students are exposed to can only be possible with the availability of funds. Our students are always seeking new and improved opportunities to participate in and excel.

My Project

The use of technology to drive instruction towards the ultimate classroom experience of student centered and student led is the overarching goal in this chemistry classroom. Students often express that they seem to get lost when it is time for lecture and this has caused some stress in the foundational learning of concepts by the students. Why only have one focal point?

By having a surface pro, the focal point will shift away from the teacher and towards the students, in order to build a classroom environment of discussion and learning led by students.

This will shift the idea of the "teacher standing in front of the room" and instead be able to move freely for a specialized learning rotation. Meaning students that understand the concept and are willing to teach others can but most importantly the teacher can freely sit anywhere and have the conceptual lecture and monitor the learning process.
