Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our daily schedule begins with our morning songs. The kids enjoy singing along to familiar songs that help promote oral vocabulary as well as helping to stimulate their minds to prepare them for the day.

My classroom is an Early Education Special Education classroom grades K-1.

It is comprised of students with mild to severe disabilities including Autism, Developmental Delays, Intellectual Disabilities, and Other Health Impairment. Our enrollment is higher this year with 14 students. About two weeks into this school year and things are running smoothly. Students are adapting to the new setting, classroom rules, and routines. These students are very sweet and motivated to learn and make progress. Their serious struggles in learning do not have an affect on their positive and inspiring attitudes.

My Project

I feel it is important to establish a positive learning environment that can promote positive behavior and motivate students to learn and grow. In my classroom I incorporate music into my daily schedule. My students enjoy singing along to songs with physical activities embedded into them. Students with special needs often times become fidgety and require breaks to move around the room. Currently the music I use I play from an app I pay for on my phone attached to older computer speakers. It would be very helpful to have a wireless speaker in our classroom to play our music. I would be able to move the speaker around the room for various activities rather than needing to be plugged in somewhere. These speakers would also be used when playing educational videos or viewing interactive math lessons.

Having these wireless speakers would not only make the musical movement breaks more enjoyable to my students, but it would make our transitions between work and musical breaks smoother and less cluttered.

These speakers would also be more effective during video watching. Students will benefit from a clear, higher quality sound system rather then the older computer speakers we currently use.
