My Project

I am a school counselor in a public k-4 elementary school with minority enrollment of 72%. 87% of our students receive free/reduced-costed lunch. As a Community School we approach learning with a focus on the whole child, providing access to services and support that meet the needs of students and families. I have been working on creating a special space in my school which focuses on the needs of the students.

As a school counselor I see the need for an amazing space that my students can take breaks and self regulate when they get overwhelmed.

This space will be utilized in many ways and be open to all students. With three primary themed paths my student will be able to learn to advocate for themselves when they are feeling overwhelmed or dysregulated. They can access a path that allows them to reset and return to class. This project is based on Path One Blue. This will be an ocean theme with blue lights, wave projector, pod swing, weighted washable dolphin wrap and other oceanic themed calming resources found in this project request. The two other paths include the green path, a sensory themed space with black lights and fidget toys and an orange path will be a sensory wall. Thank you for helping me create this amazing room that will allow for the continued growth and development of all students socially, emotionally and academically.
