This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What I love about my students is their desire to learn so they can function just like their non-disabled peers in any given situation to the best of their ability.
Given the right materials to work with my students take joy in learning because they can do what is expected of them without hesitation, mental or emotional resistance.
Having the right material to aid learning and supplement learning also helps my students learn how to do things for themselves without having someone always there to help them. This builds confidence and self-esteem.
My Project
Children learn best when they can identify with their learning experiences and so building a library of books students would like to read will help them continue reading even when material becomes challenging.
The practice of reading will allow students to improve their reading abilities which will in turn also help with improving writing skills and the willingness to do more tasks they may have been hesitant about before.
Getting reluctant readers to become lovers of reading is my desire. I have seen the joy that comes when a reluctant reader now wants to read and volunteers to read and selects their own reading materials.
