Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a 12:1+1 special education classroom in the South Bronx. Many of my students have learning disabilities. The school is located in a high poverty area.

My students are faced with hardships everyday, yet they come to school eager to learn.

Despite obstacles put in their ways, my students strive to reach their potentials. School is their safe haven where I strive to provide them with all the knowledge I can with the resources that are available to me.

My Project

Many of my students with learning disabilities find the task of writing to be daunting. They often have many ideas that they are willing to discuss and draw pictures of, but freeze when it is time to write these ideas down. I have tried many different strategies in order to get my students to feel more comfortable writing, but they still resist. I have come to the conclusion that technology will be a huge assistance in this area.

Having the Dragon Speech Recognition Program is going to transform my students' progress in the classroom.

This program allows students to speak into a microphone attached to a headset. The program then translates their speech into writing. This will be a miraculous resource for my students and will help them to realize and reach their true potentials. The Dragon program, headsets with microphones and comfortable computer chairs are going to help my students with special needs enjoy writing.
