My Students

I have any amazing group of 14 preschoolers with varying disabilities. They all love coming to school and leaning through play, exploration, stories, art, music and movement, learning centers and hands on experiences. There is never a dull moment in the classroom or on our outdoor yard.

I teach at an urban school n Los Angeles where most of the students are at a socio-economic disadvantage.

While they might have access to technology using their parent's mobile devices, few have a computer or laptop at home. My students are amazing and I consider it a privilege to have a job which I love. Everyday offers endless possibilities to grow cognitively, socially/emotionally, physically, and to development language. The students are naturally curious about most things and their brains at this age are like sponges soaking up everything in their world. My workday goes by really fast because we always have a lot going on inside and outside the classroom.

My Project

Depending on the need of the student, the iPad might be used to develop fine motor skills through tracing letters, numbers, shapes and words. Apple has many educational apps to develop school readiness skills. I have students who are nonverbal who will have another way to develop language and communication skills using the iPad. Students will be able to listen to stories or songs on the device. I feel an iPad is an excellent way to reach all of my students even though their disabilities range from mild to severe.

This iPad will be another classroom tool enabling me to reach all of my students regardless of their varying disabilities.

Apple has an amazing variety of apps to be downloaded to meet the diverse needs of my students. I will be able to research apps and decide which ones are specific to the needs of each learner in my classroom. I look forward to seeing the progress of each student in attaining their IEP (Individual Education Plan) objectives and goals!
