Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special needs classroom makes every effort to help every child reach their highest potential. It is a mathematics classroom that teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. My project is trying to get some basic supplies to help the students reach their goals. They would be so thankful.

My classroom is located in East New York, Brooklyn.

The students come from impoverished homes and battle personal ordeals everyday. For many of the children, school is their only escape. School is the place that provides food, love, shelter, nourishment and of course, academic enrichment. My classroom is in desperate need of supplies. We need paper, markers, glue and any technology. We are requesting one iPad and ink for our printer which we can not use because we do not have ink. Gaining these supplies would make a real change in the classroom for the children. The children are very kind and eager to learn but it is difficult without the adequate resources. We cannot rely on their parents for school supplies and I have spent a tremendous amount of money buying supplies. It would be amazing to get the paper, ink, glue and other supplies.

My Project

We will be using the supplies immediately! We do not have many supplies in our classroom. The students are not able to bring in many things from their home. So, I am responsible for supplying most of the basic necessities for the students. However, our classroom is desperate for sentence strips, glue, markers and ink. We are only able to incorporate small amounts of technology into the classroom because the supplies are so limited. An iPad would make such a critical difference to the classroom. Many of the students have special needs and require differentiated instruction. Bringing technology into the classroom would allow children to use different websites and even learn by playing math games. The kids would be so excited.

The supplies will make a critical change needed for our classroom to succeed and thrive.

We are desperate for paper, markers, glue and ink. The children excel when working with technology, but we do not have the ability to incorporate it into their daily lives. By approving this project, we would have an iPad in the classroom and that would create a critical connection to technology for these students. They would be so appreciative and grateful.
